Resumen

Methods have been well-established for measuring AER in buildings. These methods could be implemented as part of VI site investigations. AER has a large effect on concentrations of VOCs present in IA. It can cause more than one order of magnitude variation in results. VOC concentrations in IA are in particular sensitive to the existence of AC, which tends to increase VOC concentration in IA. This result is supported by others3. AER is influenced by the same weather factors (wind and indoor-outdoor temperature differential (stack effect)) that influence soil gas entry into buildings. Further efforts should be directed toward incorporating these factors in both processes.
