Resumen

Tissue injury creates a paradoxical state in which nutritional intake is decreased at a time when the need for these nutrients is greatest. Examining the biological mechanisms underlying the metabolic response to injury provides insight into why this paradoxical state exists. The nurse can use this information to develop interventions that promote utilization of exogenous nutrition, thereby limiting net loss of body tissue.
