Resumen

The effect of the stiffness and damping properties of the racetrack on the vertical ground reaction force (VGRF) was investigated using dynamic modeling to simulate both the horse and racetrack surface during the stance phase of the leading forelimb at gallop. Track material parameters were selected based on soil engineering studies. These studies categorized the soil as: weak; medium strength; strong soils; and rocks. The results suggest that racetrack material amendments which primarily alter surface damping may not be important in avoiding racetrack breakdown.
