Resumen

Urinary incontinence due to urethral dysfunction can be related to urethral hypermobility (anatomic incontinence), intrinsic sphincter dysfunction (ISD), or both. Correction of ISD requires one of several procedures to increase urethral coaptation and support. Since December 1985, we have used the vaginal wall sling for most of our patients with ISD; we have found it to be a simple and effective method of increasing urethral coaptation with minimal morbidity and complications.
